Is a Small House Dog Right for You?

A small house dog can be an ideal pet, and when treated right will bring you lots of joy and companionship. There are many breeds of small dogs to choose from, so you can pick the one that most appeals to you.

Pomeranians, Poodles, Chihuahuas, Maltese, Yorkies, Maltipoos and Cockapoos are just a few of the more common small house dogs. You can see pictures of the various breeds by browsing through our adult dogs via the menu on the left. This will give you an idea of what each breed is like – not just what they look like, but what their temperament and characteristics are like.

A small house dog can require a lot of attention and care, particularly as compared with a bigger dog. They are more likely to get cold, and it’s far easier for them to get underfoot! Their small size is what makes them ideal for a house pet, though, and as long as you take care of them they will be a delightful addition to your family.

Learning to care for your small house dog is not that difficult. You can do some quick research online to find tips and how to advice, or to locate the best supplies, accessories, dog food and anything else that your dog will need. Over the next few weeks and months we will be adding content with tips and resources for you as well, so keep checking back, or better yet, become a fan on our Facebook page to be kept up to date with new information!

Because of their size, small house dogs are easy to take with you when you go traveling. They can ride along in a comfy carrier, or beside you in the car. You can even take your dog if you are traveling by airplane. Use these tips to ensure a smooth journey for both of you!

Small dogs can be particularly good for people living in smaller houses or apartments, as they don’t require as much space as a bigger dog. Their bed can be tucked away in a corner, and they are far less likely to be knocking your little kids around with their bulk and weight!
